    • Entries Due May 27 for Summer Junior Livestock Events (5/14/08)
      EAST LANSING, Mich. — June will be a busy month for young exhibitors of beef, hogs and sheep in Michigan. The annual Michigan Junior Beef Show and Beef Showcase (open show) and the Michigan Junior Sheep Spectacular and Northern Exposure Club Lamb Show are scheduled for June 13-15.     • MSU to Offer Series of Cow Camp Clinics in May, June (5/1/08)
      EAST LANSING, Mich. — Cows may not be the first thing a person thinks of when signing up for summer camp, but that’s all about to change. Dairy Youth Cow Camp is a series of one-day “summer camp” workshops to be held across the state in May and June to introduce young people to and educate them about dairy cattle. Read more...         
    • 4-H Teens Present Environmental Solutions to Legislature (4/25/08)
      LANSING, Mich. — Teens from the Michigan 4-H Youth Conservation Council (M4-HYCC) testified on April 23 before a joint session of the Michigan Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Environmental Affairs and the Michigan House Committee of Great Lakes and Environment. The 15-member council presented ideas for reducing the environmental consequences of phosphorus pollution from lawn fertilizers and detergents along with possible options for funding their ideas. The presentation was the result of more than five months of research.

    • Michigan Author Donates Books to Help Military Kids in Michigan (4/16/08)
      EAST LANSING, Mich. — A program to help children and siblings of soldiers got a boost when Michigan author Johnathan Rand donated books as part of a special project. The program, Operation: Military Kids (OMK), is a nationwide initiative that supports children and siblings of deployed soldiers in the National Guard and Army Reserve. OMK in Michigan is part of the Michigan State University Extension 4-H Youth Development program. Rand is the author of a popular children’s book series, American Chillers.

    • Annual MSU Dairy Club Heifer Sale Averages $2,259; Raises Dollars for Judging Team Trip to Europe (4/16/08)
      EAST LANSING, Mich. — Avid connoisseurs of dairy show calves and heifers were present March 28 to support the annual Spartan Spectacular Sale. Managed by the Michigan State University (MSU) Dairy Club and Dairy Judging Program, this year’s event featured 17 head of Holstein, Brown Swiss and Jersey heifers, which sold for an average price of $2,259.

    • Annual Butterfly Exhibit Helps 4-H Children’s Gardens Celebrate 15 Years (3/18/08)
      EAST LANSING, Mich. — Escape the cool weather and immerse yourself in a world of butterflies! Learn how and what they eat and how they feed, how they fly, what relationships they form and how they roost at night during the Butterflies in the Garden exhibit at the Indoor 4-H Children’s Garden at Michigan State University, now through April 30. Visitors to the live butterfly exhibit will be able to see and touch many species of butterflies, including zebras and other swallowtails, painted ladies, red admirals and monarchs. Read more...
    • 4-H Capitol Experience (3/6/08)
      4-H teens from across the state will participate in the 26th annual Capitol Experience. This four-day conference focuses on civic engagement and public policy. The teens, along with adult volunteers, learn how they can become politically engaged and influence policy issues while interacting with legislators, state agency staff members and lobbyists.

    • 4-H Communications Day Builds Self-Confidence, Public Speaking, Presentation Skills (2/5/08)
      EAST LANSING, Mich. — Youth from around the state will come to Michigan State University this Saturday (Feb. 9) to participate in various competitions during 4-H Communications Day. The purpose of Communications Day is to give youth a chance to showcase their talents and awareness of a variety of subjects. The event allows youth to develop their self-confidence and communication skills. Competitions test these youth on everything from resume presentation to public speaking skills. Read more...
    • 4-H Birthday Celebration Attracts 4,000 to Breslin, Creates Sixth Highest Attendance Ever for Lady Spartans (1/9/08)
      EAST LANSING, Mich. — More than 11,200 fans were on hand at the Michigan State University (MSU) Jack Breslin Student Events Center on Saturday, January 5, to kick off a year of activities celebrating 100 years of MSU Extension (MSUE) 4-H Youth Development in Michigan.  At least 4,000 of those fans are involved in 4-H or MSUE. They came from all over the state to be part of the birthday celebration and cheer on the MSU women’s basketball team as it faced Penn State in a nationally televised game. Read more...
