30-40 hrs./wk. plus event overtime

Paid Internship
$7.65 per hour

Assist with coordination, implementation, and wrap up of a large youth development conference called 4-H Exploration Days under the direction of Judy Ratkos, Program Leader, and Pat Talbot, Project Event Coordinator. Exploration Days is an annual 4-H MSU pre-college program that attracts about 2,500 participants who represent all 83 Michigan counties.

Assist with the recruitment, selection, confirmation and training of volunteer session and activity hosts.

Attend the entire event (other than time needed to attend MSU classes) including staying overnight at Akers Hall with the event headquarters staff. (The event HQ is operated from Tuesday, June 17 to Friday, June 20, 2008)

Assist with participant housing assignments.

Gater data for reports and program evaluation.

Assume other Exploration Days responsibilities as needed.

GPA min. 3.0

Strong organizational and time management skills, ability to work well under deadline pressure. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to accept responsibility. Demonstrated drive and initiative. Appreciation of the value and the ability to follow through on detailed work. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Good problem-solving ability. Past 4-H experience is useful but not required.

Coordinate and manage session field trip bus/van schedules (approximately 55 trips total.)

Attend the entire event (other than time needed to attend MSU classes) including staying overnight at Akers Hall with the event headquarters staff. (The event HQ is operated from Tuesday, June 17 to Friday, June 20, 2008)

Assist with participant housing assignments.

Gather data for reports and program evaluation.

Assume other Exploration Days responsibilities as needed.

Assists with developement, implementation and evaluation of 4-H Youth Programs, educational events, confernces and workshops. Compose/organize needed articles and printed materials. Coordinates facility arrangements and audiovisual needs with agencies, clients and speakers. Answers and follow up on requests for conference/event information. Assist at conferences/events. May assist with teaching educational programs. Attention to detail, word processing, and educational skills.

Spring:
$125 per month stipend

Spring: Assist with coordination of 4-H Environmental and Outdoor Education Adult and Teen Leader Training Workshop to be held February 29 to March 2, 2008, at Kettunen Center near Cadillac, Michigan. Attend training as administrative assistant.

Spring and Summer: Assist with coordination of environmental and outdoor education sessions for 4-H Exploration Days -- an annual MSU pre-college program held June 18-20, 2008. (Approximately 2,500 participants from all 83 Michigan counties attend annually.) Attend the entire event (other than time possibly needed to attend MSU classes) including staying overnight at Akers Hall with the rest of the event headquarters staff. (The event headquarters is operated from Tueaday, June 17 to Friday, June 20, 2008.) Assume other Exploration Days responsibilities including assisting with participant housing assignments, event setup and take down.

Summer: Serve as administrative assistant for 4-H Great Lakes and Natural Resources Camp. Assist with camp coordination including correspondance, accounting, processing applications, making group assignments, packing, unloading and driving an MSU car to and from camp. Attend the entire camp and counselor training, July 26 to August 2, 2008, to help with camp operations held at Camp Chickagami facilities in Presque Isle, Michigan (between Rogers City and Alpena). 4-H GLNR Camp is an annual 4-H MSU pre-college program which attracts approximately 80 teen campers and counselors from across Michigan.

Spring: Assist with web site updating for 4-H Environmental and Outdoor Education web pages.

Summer: Gather data for reports and program evaluation.

Spring and Summer: Assume other responsibilites related to these programs as needed.

GPA min. 3.0

Interest in gaining program/event coordination experience. Interest and background in environmental and outdoor education. Strong organizational and time management skills, ability to work well under deadline pressure. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow through. Ability to accept responsibility. Demonstrated drive and initiative. Strong communication and computer skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Good problem-solving ability. Past 4-H experience is useful but not required.
