Hansen
Dr. Mark Hansen is the Coordinator for Emergency Management Programs at Michigan
State University Extension and an Extension Specialist in Wildfire Mitigation
Programs. Hansen holds all three degrees from MSU, including a B.S. in Wildlife
Biology and Management, M.S. in Crop and Soil Sciences, and Ph.D. in University
Outreach Education and Administration. His doctoral research focused on identifying
and understanding barriers to public participation in educational activities.
His current professional affiliations include immediate, national Past Chair
of the Extension Disaster
Education Network, with current membership on the EDEN Executive Committee,
and EDEN Homeland Security Committee. Hansen also serves as the MSU Extension
Director's designate on the USDA-Michigan Food and Agriculture Council and USDA
State Emergency Board, Coordinator for the MSUE Community Security Education
Team, and a member of the Michigan Agriculture and Food Security Team. Since
2002, he has served as the Co-coordinator for Michigan's Firewise Communities
Project. He has been an invited presenter at the Michigan State Police Emergency
Management Summit in 2005, Michigan Homeland Security Conference in 2005, National
Extension Directors and Administrators Conference in 2004, University of Cornell
Biosecurity Symposium in 2003, and University of Colorado Natural Hazards Conference
in 2002. He led a USDA grant in 2002, which provided emergency management training
for Extension staff across 17 states. Hansen has authored grants in excess of
$2.5 million for water quality, emergency management, wildfire, and other related
projects. In 2003, Hansen was awarded the USDA Group Honor Award for Excellence
in the category of Heroism and Response, the most prestigious award presented
by the Secretary of Agriculture.
