WSJM October 5, 2005 Blueberry Meeting

This is Al Gaus the Berrien County Extension Educator for fruit and ornamentals reporting from the Berrien County MSU Extension Office.

For all blueberry growers, I would like to let you know about the 2005 National Blueberry Conference and Exposition. It will be held at the DeVos Place in Grand Rapids, Mi. on October 11th and 12th.

Sponsored by MBG Marketing, the event is an opportunity for blueberry growers and industry representatives from around the country to check out the latest in technology, service, and equipment related to the blueberry industry.

The Conference will start on the 11th with a cooking demonstration by Deanna House. Tuesday evening will feature the MBGA awards banquet.

Wednesday will start with the National Blueberry Pancake Breakfast followed by a series of educational sessions through the day. The first is "New Blueberry Products" by Tom Payne. The second session that starts at 1:00 p.m. is "The Future of Michigan Agriculture" by Mitch Irwin, Director of the Michigan Department of Agriculture. The final educational session will start at 3:00 p.m. and is entitled, "Industry Research Update" by Dr. Amy Howell. Repeating this is the National Blueberry Conference and Expo, October 11th and 12th at The DeVos Place in Grand Rapids, MI.

A Second meeting that follows the Expo will be the North American Blueberry Council meeting on the 13th. Then on the 14th and the 15th, the United States Highbush Blueberry Council annual meeting occurs. Both of these meetings take place at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel.
