WSJM – September 21, 2005 TNRC Field Day
This is Al Gaus the Berrien County Extension Educator for fruit and ornamentals reporting from the Berrien County MSU Extension Office. Today, I want to invite you to attend the Field Day at the Trevor Nichols Research Complex being held Tuesday, September 27. The Complex is located west of Fennville in Allegan County.
The Trevor Nichols Research Complex is the only Michigan Agriculture Experiment Station that is dedicated to fruit pest management research. The station's original 80 acres were donated to Michigan State University's Department of Entomology in 1967 by Mr. Trevor Nichols, a Fennville-area fruit grower. The station presently contains a total of 170 acres. It has fields representing every major fruit commodity grown commercially in the state of Michigan.
The Trevor Nichols Research Complex staff will be hosting the field day from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, September 27. There is no cost to attend this field day and it is open to all.
The event and tour will start promptly with a welcoming of guests at 1:00 p.m. The tour will consist of updates of just a few of the many current research projects being conducted at Trevor Nichols. Topics will include: apple pest management and pheromone mating disruption by Larry Gut; control of grape and blueberry pests by Rufus Isaacs; control of grape diseases by Annemiek Schilder, control of European Red Mite and new insecticide efficacy trials by John Wise; and a plum curculio research update from Mark Whalon’s lab.
The Trevor Nichols Research Complex is located at 6237 124th Ave. (same as M-89) west of Fennville. To get there, simply go 3 miles east of exit 34 off of Interstate 196. It is on the North side of the road, between 63rd and 62nd Ave. I hope you can make it.
That is all for today, this has been Al Gaus for Berrien County MSU extension.
