WSJM June 29, 2005 Viticulture Field Day
Hello, this is Al Gaus the Berrien Extension Educator for fruit and ornamentals reporting from the MSU Extension office in Berrien County.

I would like to bring your attention to an upcoming meeting at the Southwest Michigan Research and Extension Center. It is the 16th Annual Viticulture Field Day and Steak Cookout. It will be held on Wednesday, July 27th, starting at 9:00 A.M. The Southwest Michigan Research and Extension Center is located at 1791 Hillandale Rd. in Benton Harbor. It is located on the East Side of Hillandale between Napier and Meadowbrook. The cost of the field day is $20 on or before Friday, July 15th or $25 after Friday. Preregistration is required to know the number attending for meals and handouts. Some of the highlights of the field day include a trade show, complimentary lunch, steak dinner, and tours of the research plantings. The morning tour will cover potassium vine nutrition and monitoring, selecting insecticides for control of grape insect pests, mid-season insect and disease scouting of grapevines, Chateau herbicide on newly-planted Concord grapevines, and culturally reducing cluster compactness in your Pinot noir and Pinot gris. After lunch there will be trade show presentations as well as equipment demonstrations.

The afternoon tour will cover does removal of wild grape reduce berry moth pressure?, phosphorous acid fungicides for the control of grapevine diseases, mechanization of grape production, and vineyard and cellar efforts to eliminate green bell-pepper in your Bordeaux red wines

Repeating, a viticulture field day and steak cookout will be held on July 27th at the Southwest Michigan Research and Extension Center on Hillandale Rd between Napier and Meadowbrook. Register for this event by calling 944-1477 ext. 200. The cost is $20 before Friday the 15th and $25 after the 16th.
