This is Al Gaus the Berrien County Extension Educator for fruit and ornamentals reporting from the Michigan State University Extension office in Berrien County. Today I would like to encourage you to attend the 2006 Agricultural Labor Meeting. It will be held Monday, March 27, 2006 at the Southwest Michigan Research and Extension Center on Hillandale Rd. It will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Topics to be covered include: Recent changes in agriculture labor rules—including: Worker Protection Standards, labor camps, local zoning, social security numbers, and farm/food security; Are you prepared for a US Dept. of Labor Wage and Hour Division visit to your farm?; Migrant and Seasonal Labor Protection Act Disclosures, Immigration and Customs Enforcement Update; an Immigration Legislation Update; Have you contacted your labor?; Obtaining workers; and
a Farm Workers Legal Services—Question and answer session.
This meeting is being co-sponsored by Michigan State University Extension, Berrien and Van Buren County Farm Bureaus, and Greenstone Farm Credit Services.
The Southwest Michigan Research and Extension Center is located on the east side of Hillandale between Napier and Meadowbrook. Preregistration is required by 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 22. Registration will be limited to the first 100 paid individuals. The cost of the program is $20 and includes lunch.
