WSJM January 18, 2006 – AG Action Day
This is Al Gaus the Berrien County Extension Educator for fruit and ornamentals reporting from the MSU Extension office in Berrien County.
Today, I want to talk about Ag Action Day that will be held on Friday, January 27th at the Kalamazoo Valley Community College.
Join MSU Extension Agents and Specialists for a full day of educational programs. This year there are 22 sessions on a variety of topics such as crop insurance, managing your woodland, irrigation management, and managing turf during drought. These are all in addition to the usual fruit, vegetable, and field crops topics. Restricted use pesticide and CCA credits should be available. In addition, you can take the restricted use pesticide exam anytime during the day.
Along with the educational sessions, there will be a trade show with exhibits open from 8:30 to 3:30. There are many great exhibitors scheduled to appear.
In the fruit and vegetable arena, the following are some of the titles: SWMREC Vegetable Trial Update by Dr. Ron Goldy; Insect control in fruit crops by Mark Longstroth; Disease control in fruit crops by Dr. Bill Shane; and Mark, Bill and I will speak on integrated pest management.
In the home horticulture area, there will be talks on crabgrass and other weed control strategies, proper landscape tree care, and choosing the right tree for the right location.
Ag Action Day runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The cost for admission is only $15 payable at the door and includes lunch.
