Mission: To help Michigan citizens make informed decisions to achieve economic stability and optimize resources through educational outreach utilizing community and university knowledge and resources.

                                                                                               

2004-2005 Priority Issues and Accomplishments

 

1.  Revenue Generation Committee – Focus on developing the Grandma’s Yellow Pie Plate Program into a train the trainer for credit unions throughout Michigan. Train MSUE staff around GYPP and develop a plan for statewide programming with this curriculum. Committee will work with Marlene Stum, University of Minnesota to develop the plan.

 

2. Money Mentors Committee – Develop, implement, and evaluate a financial management curriculum for adults that will train volunteers to work with individuals in communities around improving their financial management behaviors. The committee will focus on the following goals for the next year:

 

      a. Pilot the Money Mentors program in three counties in Michigan.

      b. Conduct focus groups and finalize the evaluation component.

      c. Have the curriculum materials translated to Spanish.

      d. Work on seeking funding for the Money Mentors project.

      e. Develop marketing and volunteer recruitment materials.

      f. Conduct and implement atraining for pilot counties and other staff in March 2005.

 

3. Other Opportunities

      a. Planning to implement two Exploration Days sessions for teens –June 2005

 

      b. Purchased Slide Calculators for distribution to staff – January/February 2005

 

      c. Prepared and implemented a Family Resource Management training for North Region staff. Training consisted of the variety of family resource management programming options that staff can carry out in their communities. - Gaylord, MI - April 2005

 

      d. Conducted a home maintenance survey to assess needs for programming with this target area – November 2004

 

      e. Promoted and implemented Money Smart Week sessions in conjunction with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago – Detroit Branch – during April 17 – 26, 2005.

 

      f. Earned Income Tax Credit – Developing, implementing, and funding the EITC Michigan Toolkit. This toolkit will be mailed out to government, non-profit, and educational institutions to help promote the Earned Income Tax Credit Statewide Initiative.
