Internet Safety Information for Young People, Parents and Volunteers

It is very important for young people anwd the parents and volunteers who work with them to be aware of some basic Internet safety practices. Adults need to be able to respond to questions young people may ask as situations arise. Following are some links to websites providing Internet safety information:

• The National 4-H Web On Line Safety Guidelines
  The National 4-H Web site in cooperation with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children offers tips for young people, parents and other adults for keeping young people's Web explorations safe.
• Microsoft's Safe Kids Site
  Microsoft, in cooperation with the Naperville (Ill.) Police Department's Internet Crimes Unit (NPD) and the Illinois Attorney General's Internet Task Force, created the Safekids Web to help parents and educators teach children the fundamental "rules of the road" for safe exploration on the information highway. This site provides child safety information and features a presentation -- complete with notes and a Teacher's Training Guide -- developed by detectives who specialize in Internet crimes.
• National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's Internet Safety
  The NCMEC provides an "Internet Safety Quiz for Kids," guidelines for "Child Safety on the Internet Highway," and Guidelines for "Teen Safety on the Internet Highway."
