Partnerships for Positive Youth Development: What Can We Learn From the Albion Community Model?
A video-based curriculum for people who work in youth development, produced by
4-H Youth Development, Michigan State University Extension
Partnerships for Positive Youth Development is the story of how members of Albion, a small community in Michigan, have effectively and powerfully worked together to support young people who live there. Albion, once a thriving manufacturing town, is a tight-knit community that now struggles to support community members through times of economic hardship – and the social issues that often accompany these hard times.
The video captures the challenges and opportunities that arise when a staff member from Michigan State University Extension 4-H Youth Development approaches a staff member from Minority Program Services to explore a working relationship on behalf of young people of color in Albion. The result? More than 25 years of sustained commitment to the growth and development of young people, their families and the community as a whole. The video is a powerful tool to guide learning and discussion about critical issues related to youth development and working with diverse audiences. This educational package will assist you in creating experiential workshops for adults who work with youth that focus on Taking a Positive Youth Development Approach and Developing Partnerships across Differences.
The curriculum includes the following:
Facilitators guide: 24-pages of research-based information, activities, resources
VHS and DVD: 19-minute highly-produced powerful community story
