4-H Events and Workshops

The following is a list of state and regional 4-H events scheduled from November 2008 to August 2009. If the information is available, the listing includes what the event is, when and where it will be held, who is eligible to attend and the deadline for registrations to arrive. Check with your county 4-H staff for your county registration deadlines and other details.

November 2008

  • Michigan State University 4-H Scholarship. Michigan 4-H’ers who are current high school seniors and apply as freshman for a four year degree program at Michigan State University are eligible to apply for the MSU 4-H Scholarship. The scholarship provides $2,500 annually renewable for four years of undergraduate full-time enrollment at MSU (a $10,000 value). Six recipients are selected annually based on 4-H involvement, achievements, leadership, service and academic excellence. The application form is available at http://web1.msue.msu.edu/4h/scholar.html. Applicants must apply for MSU admission by November 1 and submit their MSU 4-H scholarship application to their local county MSU Extension office 4-H staff by October 16.
County 4-H educators complete the staff section and forward it to MSU Admissions by November 1. Alternates to the MSU 4-H Scholarship are considered for other scholarship awards thanks to the generosity of donors to the Michigan 4-H Foundation. Selections for MSU 4-H Scholarships and Michigan 4-H Foundation Scholarships are determined by Spring 2009.
  • Eighth-graders Pre-college Achievement Scholarship. Eight-graders who attended a 2008 MSU pre-college summer program such as Exploration Days or Great Lakes and Natural Resources (GLNR) Camp can apply for the $2,000 Pre-college Achievement Scholarship (PAS). The PAS will be applied toward the student’s first year at MSU as a degree-seeking student. (Scholarship recipients are not guaranteed admission to MSU and are expected to meet admission requirements upon MSU application. The anticipated application deadline is December 7 with all paperwork due to the county MSU Extension office by October 16. For more information and the application form go to http://web1.msue.msu.edu/4h/scholar.html.
Because about 350 eighth-graders attended Exploration Days in 2008, each county is limited to no more than five nominees from their Exploration Days participants. There is no per county limit for GLNR Camp nominees.
